"Right now, I really just want to show what I'm capable of. It was my longest time out of the game, but it's behind me now."

The club recently signed Ménez's erstwhile France teammate Jérémy Toulalan, but it turns out that there are quite few familiar faces in the Girondins dressing room.

           "Sometimes fate has some funny surprises for you," he smiled. "I know some of these players well, like (Jaroslav) Plasil, (Nicolas) Maurice-Belay. But also (Cédric) Carrasso and Toulalan. It will make my integration that much easier, even though I have not had any misgivings. It's great; I'm happy to be hooking up with old teammates. There is a good squad here who get along well, which is also super-important."

And how high has Ménez allowed his ambitions to go for the season to come?

"Above all I want to start enjoying myself again," he admitted. "But really, things tend to take care of themselves. The ambition is to get Bordeaux back into Europe. It's a club that deserves to be playing in Europe."

Jeremy Menez has undergone surgery after losing part of his right ear on his Bordeaux debut.

              Menez, who joined from AC Milan on Monday, was accidentally stepped on by Lorient's Didier Ndong during a pre-season friendly after falling to the ground under a challenge.

              The forward was subsequently taken to hospital where he underwent a procedure under local anaesthetic to "sew up" the affected ear.

              Ndong was remorseful following the gruesome incident, apologising to Menez via a Lorient statement.

          Palmeiras boss Cuca has urged in-demand Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus to snub the likes of Barcelona and instead continue his development in the Brazilian league.

Mario Getze move to Borussia Dortmund

        Bayern Munich are in the final stages of negotiating a sell of Mario Götze back to Borussia Dortmund, according to Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. It’s confirmed that the disappointing three years of the Götze era in Munich is coming to an end.

      Speaking with Sport Bild ahead of Bayern’s friendly against SV Lippstadt, Rummenigge confirmed that Götze’s team are working on the deal to bring the attacking midfielder back to Dortmund where he spent the early years of his career.

     I can confirm that discussions are taking place with Borussia Dortmund and his agent,” Rummenigge said. “At the end of the day, an agreement must be reached over the fee. I cannot yet report that that has happened.

            Not fancied by former Bayern boss Pep Guardiola, the 24-year-old has been the subject of unrelenting transfer speculation as Anfield fan boys drool over YouTube montages.

Manchester United fans have been reacting with excitement on social media to suggestions that they are about to sign France international midfielder Blaise Matuidi.
